Costa Rica Strike Becomes Violent

Costa Rica News – The right to strike is dependent on the nature of the strike being peaceful as well as whether or not the particular strike is declared illegal.
Various union groups have been striking for two days against the tax reform.
Those who commit violent acts could be dismissed without employer responsibility. Vandalism was reported by the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery in the Moín campus. They must document the fault and open a disciplinary procedure with the Ministry of Labor. This could result in the dismissal of workers even before the strike is qualified as illegal.
The current strike is odd in that it is not against an employer rather it is 12 different unions coming together to oppose a bill under discussion.
